Inger Marie Granquist, 92, of Surprise, Arizona, formerly of Geneva, Illinois, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. Marie was born on May 30, 1932, in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, to Alfred and Inger Cosman.
Marie's early years were spent in Seattle, Washington, where she enjoyed many cherished moments, including family picnics at the park. She returned to Illinois during grade school, where she would later meet and marry the love of her life, Duane Granquist, in 1951. As an Air Force wife, Marie gracefully supported her family through the unique challenges and adventures of military life.
Marie had a true servant's heart, always putting others before herself. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose selflessness and care were felt by everyone around her. Fond memories of Marie include her exceptional talent in the kitchen, where she was especially known for her pies-apple, banana cream, cherry, and her famous French silk pie, which everyone adored. Sunday dinners at her home were filled with the aroma of her pot roast, which she faithfully prepared before church.
Marie was also known for her tender touch-she gave the best back and foot rubs, always finding ways to make others feel cared for. Her kindness extended to many areas of her life, whether it was sewing clothes and curtains, or helping with wallpaper projects. She was a woman of many talents and a source of strength for her family and friends.
Marie played piano for her church and had a deep love for hymns. Her faith in Jesus Christ was at the core of who she was, and she shared that faith with her children. It was Marie who led them in accepting Jesus as their Savior, a gift they will always cherish.
Those who knew her best also remember her love for camping, her fondness for the Chicago Cubs, and her dedication to her family, especially during Christmas, when she enjoyed sharing the story of Jesus' birth. Christmas was her favorite time of year. Marie's grace, courtesy, and selfless presence were qualities that defined her throughout her life.
Marie is survived by her former husband Duane Granquist, her three children: Daniel (Carol) Granquist, Gary (Sharon) Granquist, and David (Linda) Granquist; her 12 grandchildren: Derek (Jacque) Granquist, Roger (Amber) Granquist, Walter (Heather) Granquist, Marc Marin, Linnea (Steve) Ferguson, Janelle (Rusty) Bray, Jaime (Jason) Nord, Paul (Malori) Marin, Greg Granquist, Bradley (Angie Ruengpinyophun-Fiancée) Granquist, Kristine Granquist, and Stephanie (Kevin) Fogerty; numerous great-grandchildren; her brother Howard Cosman; her sister Dorothy Heinrich; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Inger Cosman, and her brother, Robert Cosman.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024, at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187. She will lay in state from 10:00 am to the time of the funeral service at 10:30 am on Thursday October 3rd at the funeral home. A livestream of the service will be available here: Funeral Service for Marie Granquist
The Interment will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin, IL.
