Marilyn's working career consisted of being a press operator at a check printing firm and later as a proofreader.
She was active in a variety of capacities at her church. She enjoyed working the church festivals by doing face painting and dressing as a clown. She enjoyed working at game booths, and even was known to take her turn sitting in at the dunk tank. She worked on many committees over the years. One of her favorite places was to be in the church kitchen serving at any of the fish fries or other activities. Together Marilyn and Jerry would usher on Saturdays for church services. They ushered together for years first at Saint Phillip Neri in Milwaukee, and then they continued at Queen of Apostles in Pewaukee. Marilyn enjoyed visiting with home bound people and distributing communion to those infirmed. She was happiest when helping others.
Marilyn and Jerry were very involved in Scouting. They began an explorer post for young boys and girls, (usually ages 14-21). They began with just 4 young people. Through the years they mentored over 75 young men and women. Many of these young adults included Marilyn and Jerry in their lives through college, marriages, and growing families. One young man adopted the Eckhart's, as his parents, who he fondly called them "Mom and Pops". One other young lady asked Marilyn if she could adopt her as her grandmother. Marilyn of course said "yes". Marilyn was then fondly called Nana Marilyn. The Eckhart's made it their mission to touch the lives of as many children as possible and always for the better.
Marilyn was a fun and loving person. She loved to tell jokes, share funny stories, and pull pranks on people. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, roller skating, and playing scrabble. She and Jerry enjoyed traveling to all 50 states in their 56 years of marriage. She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Just ask any of the children young or old. They all have favorite memories they would love to share.
Marilyn lived long, loved endlessly and unconditionally! However, most of all she loved touching your hearts and putting a smile on your face.
