Marjorie B. “Marge” Newcomer, 89, of Mooresville, passed away February 28, 2017 at Naples Community Hospital in Naples, Florida after a sudden illness. Born in Gary, Indiana on November 30, 1927 she was the daughter of Claude and Vera Bowlby; her parents preceded her in death. On August 9, 1950 Marge was united in marriage to her loving husband, Richard V. Newcomer and he survives.
Raised in Gary, Indiana, Marge attended Indiana University where she pledged Delta Gamma Sorority and graduated in 1950 with a degree in elementary education. Marge settled in Mooresville in 1950 where she was a 1st grade teacher at Newby Elementary School. While raising her children, Marge became active in the Mooresville community as a member of Tri Kappa Sorority, Likely Literary Club, and the Mooresville Birthday Girls. She was a faithful member of First Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing for many years. She was known to be a great cook and enjoyed spending summers at Lake Wawasee. Marge and Richard enjoyed traveling together to many destinations throughout the years. Marge was an avid sports fan, especially Butler basketball in her later years.
Along with her parents, Marge is also preceded in death by her sister, Alice Brewick and her son, Paul Newcomer.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Richard; two sons, James W. (Sandra) Newcomer of Bargersville, and David (Cindy) Newcomer of Zionsville; two daughters, Marsha (Skip) Hubbs of Mooresville, and Nancy (Michael) Murphy of Indianapolis; her much loved 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Marge Newcomer on Monday, March 6, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Mooresville. Rev. Dennis Payton will conduct the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the church. Burial will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis. Final care and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Mooresville First United Methodist Church or the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation; envelopes will be provided.
