Mark W. Dodd, 63, of Bloomfield, CT, died on March 30, 2025, with his loving wife, Cindy, by his side. Born on September 17, 1961, Mark grew up in Simsbury and was the youngest of five children. He attended Simsbury High School and received his B.S. degree from the University of Connecticut. He continued his education, receiving his Masters in Biology from the University of St. Joseph and his Masters in Business from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Mark began his career in pharmaceutical sales, but his real calling was to teach, which he did for twenty-one years at Northwest Catholic High School in West Hartford. He loved the atmosphere of the high school environment and used his dry sense of humor with the students to make education memorable.
Mark had many interests including rock, ice and mountain climbing. He also enjoyed fishing, photography and hiking with his faithful pup, Hatch. Hockey and Huskies basketball were also watched and enjoyed by Mark, with a UCONN Women's win resulting in a smile hours before he passed. Over the years, Mark developed some culinary skills. He made a mean oyster stew and French onion soup. His specialty was to prepare lobster dinners and sushi for Cindy.
Mark is survived by Cindy Killian Dodd, his wife of thirty-five years; his brother, Jim and his wife Ginny; his brother and best friend, Rich and his wife Lorraine; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert K. and Candace Killian; as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends. Mark was predeceased by his parents, James T. and Dorathea Dodd; his sister, Dee Redlich and her husband John Behrle; and his brother, Gregory Dodd.
Mark's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Yale New Haven Hospital Smilow Cancer Center; Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Floor 8-1; and to the hospice team of Vitas Healthcare. The care given by all was exceptional and truly heartfelt.
Calling Hours will be Friday, (April 4), from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. Funeral and Burial Services will be private.

Cindy, I am so. so sorry I missed the service. This was such a long struggle for Mark (and you). I am so happy his struggles are over. He suffered too long, but I know the empty feeling that lingers. We will see each other soon and know you are in my prayers Cindy, You were his strength and I just know he loved you so.

During my time at Northwest, Mr. Dodd was always a man of kindness, character, and class. What a great influence on the students.
