July 22, 1958 – October 31, 2025
Mark Steven Horn, of Petaluma, California, passed away peacefully at home on October 31, 2025, with his family by his side.
Born on July 22, 1958, in Petaluma, Mark was the beloved son of the late Martha Sovel and William Horn. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Cook (Aric), and numerous nieces and nephews who adored him. Mark also had friends that became an extension of his family.
Mark dedicated 40 years of his life to PG&E, but his true passion and calling were found in his service as a firefighter with the Wilmar Volunteer Fire Department. His commitment to helping others and his deep connection to his community were evident in everything he did.
In his younger years, Mark was involved in FFA raising and showing sheep. Mark graduated from Petaluma High School in 1977 and cherished the many friendships from school that he continued to maintain up until his death. He loved hunting and spending weekends at the Petaluma Speedway, cheering on Saturday night races. He enjoyed off-road racing trips to the desert, watching the San Francisco Giants and 49ers, and relaxing down at the firehouse with his closest friends and fire family.
Mark will be remembered for his gentle smile, heart of gold, and quick wit. His teasing sense of humor was a badge of affection—if Mark was giving you a hard time, it meant you were someone he truly cared about.
Throughout his life, Mark faced numerous health challenges with remarkable strength, courage, and a fighting spirit that inspired everyone around him.
A celebration of Mark’s life will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Petaluma Elks Lodge.
Mark’s kindness, humor, and unwavering loyalty will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mark’s memory to Wilmar Volunteer Firefighter’s Association at 3825 Bodega Ave. Petaluma, CA 94952.
