Mark A. Mortier ObituaryMark A. Mortier age 79
Loving partner of Abbe MacLise. Father to James R. Mortier and his wife Lisa M. Mortier. Proud Grandfather to Penelope L. Mortier (4) and Mackian Y. Mortier (2). Dedicated brother to Darlene Domres, deceased just 2 weeks prior.
Born to Genevieve Desmond and Abert J. Mortier in July of 1946, then growing up in Gladstone, Michigan with siblings Darlene, and Rex Allen Mortier, who passed at a young age from Leukemia. Then later in life, being very close, Darlene would be there with full support to assist Mark through a heart bypass surgery and recovery. Mark would dutifully return that support to her through Darlene's successful breast cancer treatments. Then he was there again with cheerful support during Darlene's recent passing at age 82.
Mark graduated from Gladstone High School in 1964, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and would remain a proud 'Yooper' for the rest of his life. Then went on to Michigan State University to receive a bachelor's degree in Psychology, before heading down to Chicago. Here he attended and worked at DeVry Institute of technology, to train in software engineering, in 1970. From there he was hired to the I.T. Department of the Federal Reserve Bank's Chicago branch. He completed a 35+ year career of solving problems and making lifelong friendships with a dedicated group, retiring at age 55.
During that time lovingly sharing in parenting with Kathryn L. Karlsson his son James R. Mortier was born (1986). Raising him in St. Edwards parish (Chicago) where Mark always remained a dedicated parishioner and Catholic. With this he became a cub scout leader, and later a dedicated Troop 904 Scout Master (troop leader), teaching generations of young men to love and conserve the outdoors and forests of the Midwest. For many years after stepping down as leader Mark provided mentorship and support for the troop's new generations of scouts and scout leaders.
Throughout his retirement he was an avid gardener at his home in Chicago. For over 20 years he faithfully planted thousands of Tulips and Dahlias. Spring through Fall his house was surrounded with flowers, most of which he planted in the front of his house for all passers to enjoy.
Mark's final years were highlighted by frequent visits with beloved his grandchildren and "Favorite" daughter in law Lisa. Hunting trips with friends and his son, J.R. A cruise to Alaska with Abbe. Dedicated weekly meetings with his many close friends.
Visitation Thursday Nov. 13th 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM and Funeral Services Friday Nov. 14th 10:00 AM from TOHLE FUNERAL HOME 4325 W. Lawrence Ave. to ST. EDWARD CHURCH 4350 W. Sunnyside, Mass 10:30 AM.
