Mark L. Spaeder

Mark L. Spaeder, age 87, of Millcreek Twp., passed away Monday, February 27, 2023, at UPMC Hamot surrounded by his family. He was a resident of Forestview Skilled Nursing for the past year, where he quickly formed many close friendships. A sincere thank you to the entire staff who so lovingly cared for Mark. He was born October 27, 1935, in Erie to William T. and Julia (Lochner) Spaeder.
Mark proudly served in the United States Army. He was a graduate of Cathedral Preparatory School and later joined his family business, William T. Spaeder Co. where he served as Vice President. Mark was a Founding Member of St. Luke Roman Catholic Church, and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 11229. He had been on the board of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Northwestern PA., the Plumbing Code commission, and the Erie Construction Council.
Besides his parents, Mark was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret "Peg" (Breck) Spaeder on November 14, 2022; an infant granddaughter, Mary Faith Nies; three sisters: Madeline Spaeder, Marie Senger, and Kathleen Peden; five brothers: William Spaeder, James Spaeder, Thomas Spaeder, Brother Paul Spaeder (OSFS) and Jerome Spaeder.
Survivors include his children, Steve Spaeder, Mark A. Spaeder, and Karen Nies and her husband David, all of Erie; brother, Dave Spaeder; sister, Mary Agnes Crolli and his grandchildren; Cameron Spaeder, David Nies, Jr., and John Nies. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends are invited to call at St. Luke Church, 421 East 38th St. Thursday from 10 a.m. until of the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery. Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Ave. Branch, 845 East 38th St. is handling arrangements.
