Mark Suggs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home - Wichita Falls on Dec. 27, 2023.
Mark Suggs, 65, of Wichita Falls, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023.
A son of the late Fletcher and Glenna Mae Suggs, Mark was born on August 29, 1958, in Montgomery, Alabama. Mark was raised in Wichita Falls, Texas after the family relocated there.
Mark was a 1976 graduate of Wichita Falls High School, continued his education at Midwestern State University and Texas Tech Health Science Center School of Medicine in Lubbock. He was selected and completed a highly sought-after residency in Ophthalmology at the Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans. After graduating with his Medical Doctorate, he practiced in Lawton, Oklahoma for 5 years before opening his own practice in Wichita Falls in 1995.
Dr. Suggs was a skilled and well-respected surgeon, well known for his pioneering work to improve outcomes for his patients in the treatment of diseased eyes, cataracts, and refractive surgery. His patients appreciated his diligence, compassionate bedside manner, and unrelenting follow-through from diagnoses to recovery.
While medicine was always his primary focus, he loved the outdoors, enjoyed boating, snow skiing, hiking, and discovering new adventures with his wife Debra. He enjoyed keeping himself in top form and was well known in local gyms.
Along with his parents, Mark was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Diane Suggs.
He is survived by his wife Debra Suggs; his daughter Morgan and grandson Lennox; brother Jack Suggs and wife Joan who live in Tennessee. He had a special love for his nieces and nephews, along with Debra's daughters Alex and Carli. Other significant people in his life include his dedicated work family, JR Mello, Emily Stewart, Kayelyn Smith, and Julieta Castillo who were instrumental in building a successful practice.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 29th at Onelife Community Church, 807 Austin Street. Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
For those desiring to make a memorial contribution, consider these organizations Meals on Wheels Wichita County, Hands to Hands Community Foundation or The Children's Aid Society of West Texas, of which Mark and Debra were faithful supporters.

Always a smile and a pleasant demeanor when seeing "The Doc"
A true credit to his profession. May God give peace and solace to Debra and family during this time.

He gave me 20/20 vision after cataract surgery due to extra research and effort. What a miracle for a terribly near-sighted person from birth! He also came back to town on a Sunday afternoon, after pulling his boat from Lake Possum Kingdom, to meet my mother at his office because she was having some difficulty following her cataract surgery. Who does that? I loved him dearly for all that he was, and I'll miss him terribly.
