Obituary published on Legacy.com by Volk Leber Funeral Home - Teaneck on Jan. 3, 2023.
On Sunday, December 25, 2022, Christmas Day, Marlon Anderson, traded his earthly home for a heavenly one at the age of 65. The oldest child of Robert Anderson and Edna Dixon Anderson, Marlon was born February 24, 1957, in Woman's Hospital in New York City.
He attended P.S. 125 elementary school in Harlem (NYC) until 5th grade. The Anderson family then moved to
Teaneck, NJ, in 1968, where Marlon continued his elementary education at William Cullen Bryant central 6th grade school. Marlon proudly matriculated through the Teaneck Public School system and graduated from Teaneck High School in 1975. Next, he enrolled at the historic and prestigious Howard University (
Washington, DC), where he majored in Political Science, graduating in 1979. Marlon, a gifted writer and speaker, used his oratory and writing skills at Howard on the debate team and by publishing many articles and essays.
Upon graduating from college, Marlon began working at the Federal Reserve Bank of NYC. He was employed there for 5 years before starting work as a city planner with the NYC Dept of City Planning. He remained in this position for the next 35 years. During his tenure at City Planning, he enjoyed hosting and planning the annual Kwanzaa celebration for many years. He also served, for a time, as an EEO officer for the agency. After many years of working, Marlon retired early, to slow down and enjoy a peaceful life.
Marlon enjoyed sports, whether watching or attending football and basketball games in his spare time. He also enjoyed traveling with friends to Atlantic City and will be remembered as a fun-loving person, who enjoyed socializing with family and friends. Marlon also loved the Lord and, while young, began attending the Presbyterian Church of Teaneck, where he maintained a lifelong relationship, both individually and through family. Truly one of a kind, those who came to know Marlon will miss his loving, intelligent, kindhearted, caring, and compassionate demeanor.
Marlon is pre-deceased by his beloved father, Robert Anderson, and leaves to mourn his passing, a loving family: Edna Anderson (mother); Lisa Anderson (sister); brothers, Charlton Anderson (Collene) and Jason Anderson; nephew Robert Anderson (Sade); and Cydnee Anderson (niece); along with cousins, extended family, and many, many long-time friends.
RIP our dearly loved Marlon; we will miss you.
