Marolyn Sue Pepmeier, 88, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025 with her family by her side.
Marolyn was born on January 25, 1937 in Knox County, Indiana, to Harold and Katherine Julian and grew up in Bicknell with her parents, five sisters, and three brothers. She attended Bicknell High School and married her true love, Harley Pepmeier, on March 26, 1955 at First Methodist Church in Bicknell.
Family was at the center of Marolyn’s life. She and Harley often opened their home to loved ones from Indiana and Missouri, hosting weekends full of late-night card games and delicious food, get-togethers at Gregg Park, and swimming at the Holiday Inn. She took many trips with her “Twisted Sisters” to Fort Myers and Sanibel Island, Florida, where they spent their days searching for shells and sunbathing. Marolyn and Harley also loved visiting the beach together, taking annual vacations with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for many of the past 25 years.
Marolyn was an excellent cook, never sending anyone home without leftovers. Her specialties included noodles and dressing on Thanksgiving, fried chicken and mashed potatoes, and her famous salad. She also enjoyed watching others cook – particularly Lidia Bastianich – and reading cookbooks. Marolyn took great pride in her flowers, as well, and loved watching birds of all kinds in her yard and landscape.
To her grandchildren (and many other people), Marolyn was known as Grammy. Each of her grandchildren has their own favorite Grammy memories, but the one thing they can agree on is that she loved them unconditionally, and she made sure they knew it.
Marolyn is survived by her children Beth O’Brien, Tami Kight (Rob), John Pepmeier (Sara), and Jeff Pepmeier (Lori); grandchildren Laura O’Brien, Jonathan O’Brien (Stacia), Chloe Kight, Jared Pepmeier (Tracy), Samantha Brinkley (Andrew), Kortney Coppens (Isaac), Brandi Oliver, and Kaitlin Stephens (James); and 12 great-grandchildren. Marolyn also is survived by sister Jan Horrom, brother David Julian, and brothers-in-law Dave Horrom and Calvin Horn, as well as dozens of nieces and nephews.
Marolyn was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Betty Sage, Joann Rico, Nancy Culley, and Patty Reel; brothers Jerry Lee Julian and Harold Julian, Jr.; many sisters-in law and brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Marolyn will be held on Sunday, August 24 from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home (524 Broadway St., Vincennes). Funeral services will take place on Monday, August 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Goodwin-Sievers. Loved ones will also welcome visitors immediately preceding the funeral services from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Marolyn’s final resting place will be alongside her beloved husband, Harley, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Vincennes.
