On Friday, September 17, 2021, Marshall Alexander, loving husband and father of two daughters, passed away at age 62.
Marshall was born to G.L. and Leona Alexander on January 2, 1959 in Thomas, Oklahoma. Marshall graduated from Oklahoma State Tech in 1979 with a diploma in Plumbing and Pipefitting. He married Donna Coy on July 31, 1981. He worked as a self-employed Plumbing, Electrical, and Mechanical contractor specializing in mobile home service.
His first ride in an airplane was on July 4, 1964 in Clinton, Oklahoma with his Uncle Buddy in his Cherokee 235. Uncle Buddy lived in California and would fly to Clinton to see family, and it was always such an exciting time when he visited. Marshall and his siblings would stand in their yard in Thomas, Oklahoma scanning the skies with binoculars hoping to see Uncle Buddy's airplane before he landed.
He obtained his Private Pilot Certificate in April 1977 and his Airframe and Powerplant Certificate in April 1990. He had an enthusiasm for sharing aviation with anyone who wanted a ride in an airplane. Two of his favorite events were flying to Ponca City, Oklahoma on the first Saturday of every month for a breakfast fly-in or to Haskell, Oklahoma for donuts on Saturday mornings.
In March 2021, he flew his RV-9A for the very first time, which was an airplane that he built himself with the help of a few family members and friends. Building airplanes and model airplanes was a passion of his that he shared with anybody who wanted to hear about it.
During April 2021, he spent a few weeks in Carson City, Nevada working on his Airplane Single Engine Sport Pilot Certified Flight Instructor rating. After he passed that exam, he began instructing and teaching people how to fly right away.
Every summer for the past 20 years, he and his family would go to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for a week-long air show. After going for so many years, friends that he would see only once a year became family to him.
He also enjoyed restoring old John Deere tractors that he would drive in parades. He loved singing in the church choir and playing his baritone in the church's orchestra. Another favorite pastime was riding his motorcycle on trips around the United States. He was known for his quick wit, and he always shared some kind of joke wherever he went. He also had a willingness to help anyone out at any time.
Marshall was preceded in death by his father, G.L. He is survived by his wife Donna, his two daughters Michela and Kaitlynn, his grandson Riggins, his mother Leona, his brothers Geoffrey and Mitchell, his sister Diahann, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
