Martha Anne Collins

Martha Collins passed died early Sunday, morning October 20, 2024, at her apartment at the Glen in Shreveport, LA.
She was born some 89 years before in Shreveport. She graduated Byrd high school in Shreveport and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
It was in Shreveport that she fell in love with Joe Collins. She and Joe got married in 1953. They were together for some 70 years before his passing in 2023.
Back in the 1950s, Joe would begin a career as an oilman, and Martha would begin her career as a stay-at-home mother, raising their three children, their children's children and the children's friends, etc. Mother Martha never met a child she didn't love.
Martha was intelligent, generous and loving. She was an avid reader; she loved music and all of God's little critters. She also had a wicked sense of humor. It wasn't uncommon for the family to sit around the kitchen table and tell stories and laugh until we cried.
She will be missed.
Martha is survived by her first son, Todd Collins and wife Su, the middle son, Larry Collins and wife Kelly, and the daughter Sharon Collins Fortenberry, Aunt Velma Price, Christine Price Buckley and husband Bobby and Herman Price. Grandchildren, Caitlyn Stevenson and husband Russell, Matthew Fortenberry and wife Victoria, and Ashli Collins. Great-grandkids, Mary-Collins Stevenson and Frances Stevenson, and Parker Fortenberry.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Debra Fields for her years of support, love and care.
The family suggests any memorials be made to Holy Angels or to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
On Friday, October 25, 2024, there will be a Rosary at 9:30 am and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a graveside service to follow at Forest Park Cemetery. Fr. Karl Daigle will celebrate the Mass.
