Marty Steiner passed away at his home on February 23, 2025. He was born on July 25, 1950, in Lincoln, Nebraska, the youngest of 7 children. After his mom died in 1951, his oldest sister and her husband, the late Alan and Joyce Green, took guardianship and raised him as their own.
In 1964 his family relocated to Bettendorf, Iowa. He graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1968. While in high school he played in various bands, which peaked his love for music and would play a significate role in future years.
After finding out that he was about to be drafted in 1971, he joined the United States Air Force where he served as an Air Traffic Controller for four years. Upon discharge in 1975, he moved to Hampton, Georgia where he worked as an Air Traffic Controller for a short time. Over the years Marty has also worked as a draftsman, a CAD operator, IT Director/Representative and Worship Minister.
Marty married the love of his life, Jeannette Steiner, on August 4, 1978, creating a "yours, mine and ours" blended family. In 1981, he began classes at Atlanta Christian College. They moved to Mableton, Georgia so he could be closer to the college and to his night job in Atlanta.
Marty and Jeannette joined First Christian Church of Mableton. Shortly thereafter, the music minister announced that he was moving away. Marty was asked to "fill in" until they could find someone else. Twelve years later, he was still "filling in"! Marty loved music and he loved leading people into the presence of God through music. God began to work on his heart in 1994 calling him to give his life to full-time worship ministry. In 1995, Marty, Jeannette and Jeremy moved to Hugoton, Kansas, to work full-time with First Christian Church of Hugoton, Kansas. In 1997, he took a music ministry position at Galilee Christian Church in Jefferson, Georgia where he served until 2002. He then took a music ministry position at New Hope Christian in Whitestown, Indiana. In 2005, God called him and Jeannette into ministry with New International, a missionary sending agency in Fort Myers, Florida, where he served as IT Director assisting missionaries all over the world for almost 20 years.
Known for his kind and gentle spirit, Marty had deep faith in God. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2007. He fought that disease long and hard and never gave up.
Marty is survived by his wife, Jeannette Mobley Steiner; son, Barry Alan Steiner (Michelle); grandson, Jett Martin Steiner; son, John E. Tuggle (Jenny); two sisters, Christine Green McVay and Carla Green Taylor; along with many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Jeremy Steiner, as well as his parents and his brothers and his sisters from his birth Mom and Dad.
A memorial service to celebrate Marty's life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Southern Hills Christian Church at City Station. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM with the service beginning at 1:00 PM with Minister Caryl Strange, Minister Dale Lovelady and John Tuggle officiating. A "drop in" gathering will be held at Marty and Jeannette's home after the service where finger foods and stories will be shared.
