Mary Ann Deaguero Obituary

Mary Ann Philomena Deaguero, born on December 23, 1944, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, departed this world peacefully on June 8, 2025. A cherished daughter, loving sister, devoted mother, and adoring grandmother, Mary Ann leaves behind a legacy steeped in warmth, culinary prowess, and compassionate connection to others.

She was a talented cook all her life, working at many restaurants, including at Tastee Freez in Velarde, where she showcased her talents as a cook for many years. Her extraordinary skill in the kitchen did not go unnoticed; in fact, her artistry in creating delectable taquitos earned her calls from former coworkers long after her departure, all eager to learn the secrets behind her renowned recipe. Mary Ann's love for cooking extended to her beloved red chili, fresh tortillas, and artisanal bread, which she prepared with an innate understanding of the importance of nourishment and comfort.

A woman of immense care, Mary Ann was always attuned to the needs of those around her. Her nurturing spirit ensured that everyone had a meal to share, embodying the essence of community and familial bonds. She was fiercely passionate about employing natural remedies and medicines throughout her life, finding solace in their ability to ease her ailments. A lifelong advocate for the healing properties of marijuana, she found in it a means to manage her pain in her later years, further underscoring her belief in the power of nature's resources.

In her quieter moments, Mary Ann found joy in the simple pleasures of home. A true homebody at heart, she relished her solitude, often accompanied by her beloved dogs—Ralph, Snoopy, and Woodchip. An ardent devotee of her Catholic faith, she was committed to her daily prayers, drawing strength and peace from her spiritual practice.

Mary Ann was predeceased by her husband, Juan Deaguero, and her cherished daughter, Linda Deaguero. She also lovingly remembers her parents, Damian and Rosario Vigil, and her siblings: the sisters Irene, Dolores, Polly, Mabel, and Nancy Vigil, as well as brothers Damian, Chris, Levi, and Pablo Vigil. She leaves behind her dear sister Dorothy Martinez, her brother Napolean Vigil, her grandson Leon Paul Deaguero, and a host of beloved friends and family, including her niece Gina Montoya, nephews Julian and Peter Garduno and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends.

As we commemorate the life of Mary Ann Philomena Deaguero, we honor a woman whose heart was as generous as her cooking was delightful. She will forever be remembered for her kindness, her legacy of love, and her ability to bring people together through the sacred act of sharing a meal. May her spirit continue to inspire us to care for one another, to celebrate life’s simple pleasures, and to maintain our connections with compassion and grace.
