Mary Ruth Eddins Britton, formerly of Ahoskie, NC, died on August 21, 2025, at the age of 95, at her home in Robersonville, NC. She was born in Nash County, NC in 1930, the oldest of six children of William Clinton Eddins and Gladys Beland Eddins Fales. Ruth married the love of her life, Lucious Randolph Britton in 1948. They were married for 48 years until his death in 1996.
Ruth was employed by Carolina Telephone in Ahoskie, retiring in 1979. She made many lifelong friends while working there. After retiring, she found joy in volunteering at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital and at the Ahoskie Food Pantry.
Ruth had many interests. She was an avid reader, an expert peach ice cream maker, and a competitive card player. Her weekly afternoon Skip-Bo games with her dear friends were times that she treasured. She was a member of Ahoskie United Methodist Church and attended Sunday school there for many years.
Ruth was truly beautiful and made everyone lucky enough to know her feel loved and special. Her favorite pastime was being a loving Nana to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters, Pat Britton and Debby Sink; her son-in-law Richard Sink; her grandchildren, Neal Hoggard and Brittony Townsend; and her great grandchildren, Harrison Hoggard and Madison Hoggard. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Wall; her brother, Skip Eddins; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sister, Sylvia Davis, and two brothers, Roy Eddins and Clyde Eddins.
A memorial service and visitation honoring Ruth will be held at a later date.
