Mary J. (Marie) McDonough of Carmel, NY passed away on April 18, 2025, at the age of 94.
A native New Yorker, Marie was born on June 8, 1930, in the bustling heart of New York City to her late parents, Felix and Rose (McIntyre) Dolan. Her life was a testament to the values she held dear, as she consistently demonstrated through her actions and dedication to her family, her career, and her faith.
In the springtime air of 1958, on the seventh of June, a day before her 28th birthday, Marie pledged her love and life to her soul mate, John McDonough, in a beautiful ceremony in the Bronx. Their union was filled with love and deep companionship until John's passing in 1992.
Marie's family was her pride and joy, which includes her loving sister, Margaret McDonough. She took immense pleasure in life's simple moments spent with her seven adored nieces and nephews: Martin, Regina, Brian, William, Loretta, Robert and Timothy.
Marie was also predeceased by her dear brother-in-law, Martin, who passed in 2016.
A woman of steadfast devotion, Marie nurtured her Catholic faith as a loyal parishioner of St. James the Apostle Church, and previously, St. Jude's Church, in Hopatcong, NJ. Her spirituality and unwavering belief were at the core of her existence. Marie's professional life was marked by a career she was extremely proud of as an Administrator for NY Life in New York City, where she showed great determination and integrity in her work.
Those who knew Marie would describe her as faith-filled; she embodied her beliefs in every facet of her life and inspired those around her to lead with kindness and purpose. Her presence was a beacon of light to her family, friends, and colleagues, who will continue to honor her memory by living out the values she cherished. Marie McDonough's legacy will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate to experience her love and guidance. Marie had a great love for animals, especially dogs.
Spending time with family and friends was most important to her and brought her great joy throughout her life.
Family and friends are welcome to gather for a visitation on Tuesday. April 22, 2025 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Cargain Funeral Home, 10 Fowler Avenue, Carmel, NY.
