Mary Musco Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home on Dec. 25, 2024.
Mary Lois (Prine) Musco, 94, of Daytona Beach, FL, formerly of Windsor, passed peacefully on December 10, 2024 at The Terrace at Bishop's Glen in Holly Hill, FL.
Mary was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Vincent and Jessie (deGroff) Prine, and graduated in 1948 from Andrew Jackson High School in St. Albans, NY. She went on, at the age of 17, to pursue a nursing career, and graduated from New York University, Bellevue School of Nursing, in New York City in 1951. Mary maintained membership in the Bellevue School of Nursing Alumni Association and had great pride related to her devotion and identity as a nurse and to the profession of nursing. She met her former husband, Salvatore Musco, DDS, while at Bellevue, and they were married for 43 years and brought six beloved children into the world.
Mary worked as a Registered Nurse for more than 24 years in New York, Rhode Island, and Connecticut while she raised her six children. She retired in 1994 and moved to Daytona Beach from Windsor, CT. She took great pride in her little house near the beach and the wonderful neighbors that shared in this next chapter of her life.
Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor and to being an overall kind person. She has been described by many as kind, understanding, inclusive, patient and safe. One of her most famous directives to her children was BE NICE. Over the years she maintained a journal with beloved quotes which reflect her sentiment. A favorite from Ralph Waldo Emerson, "You can never do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late."
Civic involvement was always an important part of her life. In Connecticut, she volunteered in a variety of organizations including Girl Scouts, Little League, The Sgt. Daniel Bissell Fife and Drum Corps, Health Council, Drug Council, co-chaired a Conference on Aging, and was active in politics, depending on the candidate, not the party. In Florida, she volunteered at the former Serenity House of Volusia and assisted the organization in successfully achieving initial accreditation through the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
Mary was an avid reader, loved children, and enjoyed Genealogy, flowers, and watching the birds in her yard. She also loved many sports, and it gave her great joy to share her passion with her children. She especially loved the UCONN Huskies men's and women's basketball teams and the players that went on to the NBA and WNBA. She loved the New York Yankees, Winter and Summer Olympics, Champions League, and World Cup soccer. She was also a NASCAR and Dale Earnhart fan.
Mary leaves to celebrate her life, her children, Christopher Musco (Gina) of Windsor Locks, Timothy Musco of Lakeland, FL, Mary Elizabeth Musco of New Britain, Sally Ann Groody (Eric Koogle) of Port Orange, FL, and Joseph Musco (Sarah) of Minneapolis, MN; her daughter-in-law, Virginia Fowles of Augusta, ME; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Musco, Steven Musco (Becky), Amanda Neff (Brian), Christopher Musco (Stephanie), Anthony Musco (Abby), and Nicholas Musco; great grandchildren, Vinnie Ross (Liz) and Molly Neff; two sisters, Adele Lawrence of Los Gatos, CA and Elizabeth McCullough of Massapequa Park, NY; and by a large extended family of nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, including Jill Musselman, Amy Clark, and Ashley Wanik, and their extended families.
In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her son, Michael V. Musco; son-in-law, Martin Groody; her brother, Vincent "Bimmie" Prine (Lois); and her brothers-in-law, Steve Lawrence and Donald McCullough.
Her family will receive friends on Saturday, March 29, 2-3 p.m., with a Memorial Service, 3 p.m., at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor.
