Rev. Maryliz Milling Clark
Died August 13, 2025. Maryliz Milling was born August 12, 1935. Her parents, James A. "Shine" Milling and Fernanda De Angelis raised their daughter with brother David Louis and sister Margo Cook in Haddonfield, NJ. "Mizzie" attended the First Baptist Church and public schools in Haddonfield. As a senior at Haddonfield Memorial High School, she was a member of the National Honor Society, a cheerleader and editor of the yearbook, Shield.
In 1953, the family moved to Indianapolis, IN. Maryliz attended Indiana University in Bloomington and in 1956 married Robert E. Hales, a medical Student. She graduated in 1957 with a B.A. in English and taught elementary students in the Indianapolis public school system. She attended Butler University in Indianapolis to establish teacher certification. The couple had two daughters Lynn Elizabeth and Amy Margo but were divorced in 1961.
In 1962 Marliz returned to NJ and established residence in Moorestown, where she attended Glassboro College (now Rowen) and taught for 2 years at the Lenola Elementary School.
In 1966 she married Wendell J. Clark; the couple moved to Lowell, MA and then Canton, MA. He adopted her daughters, and she adopted his 4 children Teresa Lynn, Gregory Alan, Kristen Denise, and Robert Anthony. The family belonged to the United Church of Christ in Canton. Maryliz taught elementary school in Milton, MA and served as a bedside and classroom teacher at the MA Hospital School in Canton. She worked in her husband's TV repair business, Chromosonic TV and as a secretary at Shawmut Glass Co. in Needham, MA. In 1976 she published The Rainbow Bible Curriculum and enrolled in Andover-Newton Theological School in Newtown, MA. The couple divorced in 1977.
Maryliz graduated from ANTS in 1979 with M. DIV. degree and was ordained by the Boston Association of the United Church of Christ. Rev. Clark served UCC churches in Auburn, ME, and East Hartford, CT before returning to NJ in 1986, where she joined the Philadelphia Association of the United Church of Christ and Old First Reformed UCC. She graduated from the Harris School of Business and worked as a legal secretary in Philadelphia and a paralegal in several S. Jersey law firms. She also served several Philadelphia UCC churches as an interim and supply pastor from 1987 to well past her official "retirement" in 1998.
Rev. Clark contributed many meditations to These Days in the 1980's and published a memoir, Web of Love and Lies in 2005. She is in the Who's Who in American Women.
In 2003 at her 50th high school reunion, Maryliz re-established a friendship with a high school classmate, Warren R. Lodholz. The couple married in 2006 and lived in Moorestown, NJ. She is preceded in death by her husband Warren R. Lodholz. She is survived by her sister Margo Foster of Moorestown, NJ, 4 daughters: Teresa Wiencek of Leominster, MA, Lynn Clark of Moorestown, NJ, Kristen Clark of Revere, MA, and Amy McBlane of Boyertown, PA; 2 sons: Gregory Clark of Glasco, KS and Robert Clark of Dudley, MA, six grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great granddaughter. Burial will be Saturday August 16 at 11AM at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Cemetery in Greenwood, SC and celebration of life will be Sunday, August 24th at 2PM at The Evergreens Acts Life Community Chapel in Moorestown, NJ.
Graveside services will be conducted Satrurday, August 16 at 11:00 A.M.at Mount Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery, Greenwood, SC,
