DARNELL, Matthew "Barney" - age 56 of Grand Blanc, passed away at his home on July 31, 2025. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private service will be held. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Humane Society of Genesee County (http://www.geneseehumane.org).
Matthew was born on June 1, 1969 to the late Ronald Alfred and Lynn Elaine (Fischer). He graduated from Grand Blanc High School and worked many years as an insurance adjuster.
He enjoyed golfing, dancing, basketball, keno and karaoke, and participated in the Grand Blanc Parent-Teacher Association for many years. He was quick with a joke, and will forever be remembered by his loved ones as someone who loved to make others laugh. Matthew had a deep love for country music, a passion he shared with his children, who grew up hearing the sounds of his favorite songs playing in the background of their lives.
Above all, Matthew loved his family dearly. He shared a special bond with his mother, whom he cared for with devotion and compassion for many years before her passing, alongside his father. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and a shoulder to lean on, and those closest to him always knew how deeply he loved them.
He is survived by his children, Joshua Darnell and Jessica Darnell, both of Flint, and his furry companion, Pixie. Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, whom he loved dearly.
