Matthew J. File, 57, of Edwardsburg, MI, passed away Thursday morning, May 16, 2024, at Hanson Hospice Center in St. Joseph, MI, following a year-long battle with cancer.
Matt was born on October 12, 1966, in Niles, MI. He graduated from Ross Beatty High School in Cassopolis, MI, and attended Southwestern Michigan College for a short time.
Matt purchased a small farm in Edwardsburg, MI. He started a wood cutting business and conducted small farming ventures. Matt, like his dad, loved the outdoors and the farming business. He liked fishing, mushroom hunting in the spring and deer hunting in the fall. There was nothing he loved more than waking up early and meeting his friends at a restaurant where they shared their views and opinions of what was happening locally.
Matt is survived by his daughter – Chloe File; mother – Charlotte File-Miller; step-father – Ronald Miller, DDS; sister and brother-in-law – Claire and Todd Collins; nephew – Gage Collins; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
Matt was preceding in death by his father – J. Whitman File.
Friends and family may gather to celebrate Matt's life from 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, May 23, at Clark Chapel and Cremation Services, 405 Center St, Dowagiac.
