Matthew T Lederer

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Matthew T. Lederer on January 18, 2025. Matthew grew up in Cliffside Park, NJ, one of the three sons of Patricia and John Lederer. He attended Epiphany School, Bergen Catholic High School and finally, St. Thomas Aquinas College. His time at Bergen Catholic High School was a source of great pride for Matthew. He considered himself a lifetime Crusader and followed their football team's success through the years from wherever he lived. At Bergen Catholic, his brothers, cousins and classmates were endlessly entertained by his spirited attitude and love of laughter.
Matthew was a big man with an even bigger personality. His contagious smile and enthusiasm opened many doors for him throughout the years. From The Palisadium Restaurant to JP Morgan Chase Bank and to the Steelton School District in Pennsylvania, his professional journey took him in many directions, but each position received his full dedication and sincerity.
Matthew lived a life filled with passion and joy. He had a fantastic sense of humor and was quick on his feet. He made everyone laugh until his very end. He enjoyed learning new things such as photography, cooking and sailing. He had strong opinions and was quick to share these with family and friends, whether it be in music, movies, politics or food. His special talent was cooking. He learned to cook from a talented French chef at The Palisadium Restaurant in Cliffside Park and was always ready to prepare great meals for all of us. He loved traveling and enjoyed meeting new people. He generously gave his time to anyone who needed support. But above all, he enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends and knew how to give everyone a good time. The great joy of his life was his daughter, Patricia Lederer. He doted on her through her formative years and saw her become the beautiful and talented young woman she is today.
Matthew is survived by his beloved daughter, Patricia Lederer, his domestic partner, Noemi Leal, his brother, Jonathan Lederer, his uncle, Thomas Roberts and his many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Matthew will be profoundly missed. Knowing him made our lives better. May we remember his formidable laugh forever.
