Matthew Charles Rexroad, MD, 30, of Jersey City, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at his parent's home in West Windsor, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Henrico County, Virginia, Matthew's family moved to West Windsor, NJ where he spent his childhood. Matthew attended West Windsor/Plainsboro High School North, graduating with the class of 2012. He was a member of the symphonic and marching bands and active in scouting, proudly achieving his Eagle Scout Award.
After high school, Matthew moved to the New Brunswick and Piscataway area to attend college. He received his BA in Cell Biology and Neuroscience from Rutgers University in 2016, and then his Master of Biomedical Sciences from Rutgers School of Graduate Studies in 2017. After completing his Preliminary Residency in Internal Medicine at Staten Island University Hospital, Matthew was engaged in his Radiology Residency at Rutgers Health.
In his spare time Matthew enjoyed playing video games, watching anime, traveling, learning history, photography, cooking and collecting seashells at the shore. He was an avid foodie, enjoyed sharing different types of Asian food with his family, enjoyed trying new restaurants with his wife, and learned how to make authentic Chinese food.
Matthew committed his life to serving others with care and kindness. His dream since childhood was to become a doctor and to help others with his heart and hands. He was recognized as a star student and resident doctor in his professional life. His passion for helping others extended globally, whether serving on a mission trip to Guatemala or doing an internship in Osaka, Japan. He embraced Chinese culture where his wife is from, loved her dearly and took care of her. Matthew lived his life with joy and perseverance, never shying away from hard work, and continued to be a beacon of light to others, even throughout his illness.
