Mattie W. Jackson, of Medina, NY was called home to Heaven on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at home with her loving daughter at her side.
Born September 21, 1930, in Thomaston, Georgia, she was the youngest of six daughters of the late Reeves and Mattie Julia (Barnes) Durham. In 1954 Mrs. Jackson moved North to the Medina area, living in Knowlesville and lastly in Medina. A hard worker, Mrs. Jackson worked doing domestic housekeeping in the community. She then worked for many years in production at Fisher-Price Toys, from which she retired. A woman of strong faith, Mrs. Jackson was a longtime and active parishioner of the Glad Tiding Baptist Church in Medina, where she sang in the choir, served on the Mother’s Board and the Diaconate Board. She was a great cook, known for her delicious poundcakes at church functions. She also enjoyed preparing large formal dinners for her loved ones. She also enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. Above all, Mrs. Jackson especially loved attending Bible Study and bolstering her strong relationship with God. Outside of her church activities, she served on the Board of the Office for the Aging and spent time exercising.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Linwood Jackson in 1989; five sisters, Eula McGraw, Fannie Rucker, Queen McElveen, Daisy Atwater, and Ella Frances White; and several nieces and nephews.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughter, Christine Jackson; sister-in-law, Mozell Harris, goddaughter, Katrina Brady, and family; Karen Boston and family, Christina Short and her extended church family at Glad Tidings.
An hour of viewing will be held on Saturday, June 28 from 10-11AM at the Glad Tiding Baptist Church, 404 W. Oak Orchard St., Medina, immediately followed by her Going Home Service at 11AM. Interment will be after in Boxwood Cemetery, Medina. Arrangements are in the care of Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina.
