Maury Dewitt Snyder passed away at the age of 72 on November 15, 2024 in Savannah, Georgia. A sudden illness produced serious complications causing him to withdraw from his Earthly state abruptly. Maury Snyder was born on March 30, 1952 to Milton Kirkwood Snyder and Marie Crutcher Snyder in Lexington, Kentucky. As a child, Maury was a rambunctious young boy who enjoyed life on his family's horse farm in southeastern Fayette county along with his brothers and sisters. In adolescence, he attended Tates Creek High School. Shortly after graduating he enlisted in military service at the age of 18. After attending boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina, he served in the United States Marine Corp for two years. He was stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and Camp Garcia, Puerto Rico; he also had a stay on the USS La Moure County. His passion for mechanism and building supported him well as he served as an engineer and equipment operator. Throughout his life, Maury's interests were diverse and ever expanding. From breeding race horses, to restoring anything from cars to furniture, he always kept busy. He was especially proud of a restored Chris Craft boat and could be seen zipping around the Kentucky River. In his later years, he became an avid coin collector and firearm/military enthusiast. Maury valued his friendships with David Gess, Rick Eldredge, Andy Bogart, Guy Richardson, Stan Cox, Robert Gover and David Smoot. A large portion of his life was spent in companionship with Rita Adams and her son, Shane Lovely (wife, Melissa Fifer Lovely). Maury is preceded in death by his parents: Milton Kirkwood Snyder and Marie Crutcher Snyder; brothers: Milton Kirkwood Snyder III and Steven Berry Snyder; and sister: Vienne Snyder Gentry. He is survived by sisters: Marie Snyder Robertson and Ellen Hagyard Snyder; children: Megan Snyder Crabb and Maury Dewitt Snyder Jr; grandchildren Aderyn, Gabriel, and Maura Crabb; Calla, Ada, and Nico Snyder. The family will privately spread his ashes, per his request, at a place that holds significant space in his memories of Kentucky.
