Melinda "Mindy" Nicholson Leighton, 54, of Fishers, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis, surrounded by the love that defined her life. She was born on January 25, 1971, to Charles and Patricia Nicholson in Greencastle, Indiana.
Mindy's warmth and generosity touched everyone who knew her. She was a beloved wife and mother who imparted all her wisdom and love to her children. A proud graduate of DePauw University and member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, she carried her college friendships throughout her life. Her faith was the cornerstone of her days, particularly as she fought her battle against cancer. She cherished her fellow parishioners at St. Simon Catholic Church, where she poured her energy into the St. Simon Royal Extravaganza Committee and MOMS (Ministry of Mothers Sharing). One of her greatest joys was helping those around her on their life’s journey.
Her compassion extended far beyond her church community. Mindy championed causes close to her heart, including the V Foundation, St. Vincent de Paul, K-Love radio, Hamilton County Humane Society, Miracle Place, and Wheeler Mission. Whether she was curled up with a book (she was never without one), exploring history and her faith, or advocating for animals in need, Mindy lived with purpose and conviction.
Above all, Mindy treasured her family. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Erik Leighton; her beloved children, Rachel and Ryan Leighton, who were her greatest pride; her father, Charles Nicholson; her sisters, Debra (Brent) Bach and Laurie (Rick) Allison; and her brother, Gregory (Sherrie) Nicholson. She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Nicholson, with whom she is now reunited.
Visitation will be 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday December 7, 2025 at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road in Fishers, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Monday, December 8, 2025 at Saint Simon the Apostle Catholic Church, 8155 Oaklandon Road in Indianapolis, with burial to follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Indianapolis.
Memorial contributions may be made to the V Foundation for Cancer Research at www.v.org , continuing Mindy's legacy of hope and healing.
