Melvin E. Michael, 79, passed away at Elmwood Assisted Living in Fremont on September 17, 2025. He was born in Fremont, Ohio, on April 12, 1949, to Earnest and Rosalin (Lance) Michael. Melvin was a 1964 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. Two years later, he married Patricia Stiger on February 12, 1966, and they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on the day of her passing on February 12, 2021. Affectionately known as “Pig Paw” he had a passion for and was a life-long farmer, growing beans and corn, and raising steer and pigs.
Melvin was a member of the FFA, a past member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and recently attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fremont.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Christian (Kelly) Michael, Matthew (Tina) Michael, Mark (Abbi) Michael, grandchildren; Cameron (Kerrie), Samantha, Pamala, Xavier, Garrett, Brennen, Ally, great-grandchildren; Quinn, Jaxyn and Denver Carnicom, Rylee, Hudson and Kace Michael; brother, Dennis (LaDonna) Michael. In addition to his parents and wife, Patricia Michael, he is preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Michele Michael.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 22, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, OH, 43420. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Fr. Krzysztof Kardzis will officiate. Burial will follow at Four Mile House Cemetery.
