Michael Joseph Beecham was born on July 21, 1957, in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Michael was born to his loving parents, Hazel Mae and Ronald Beecham. He was the youngest of seven children.

At age 17, Michael migrated to the United States with his family. He attended Martin Van Buren High School in Queens Village, and the Borough of Manhattan Community College. For 27 years, Michael worked as a dedicated train operator for the NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and was very happy to be enjoying his retirement.

Growing up in Jamaica, he had a deep love of culture and family. Our beloved Michael, also known as Jimmy and even had a play name, “Hefty.” He will always be remembered for his big heart, being a good person, and for living life to its fullest, on his terms. Throughout his life, Jimmy had a gentle demeanor. He had a great love of music and photography, from which his hobbies flowed. He also loved to take nature walks and engaged in outdoor activities, including feeding birds in his backyard. Mike was always smiling, and he loved to tell smart jokes. When it came to his big heart, he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Leaving the best for last, Mike loved different cuisines. He loved to eat, and he enjoyed eating with family and friends.

On November 30, 2024, Michael was called home to rest, following a swift battle with pancreatic cancer. He made his transition at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. Michael is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his two sons, Michael Jr. (mother, Esther Dawn), and Gemayel (mother, Patricia); his brothers, Franklin, George, Frederick, and Charles, and sisters, Beverly and Carol; his grandchildren, Michael, III, Jaylynn, and Journey; and his significant other, Deloris Nelson and her family.

The family would like to thank everyone who offered words of sympathy, support, and gestures of love and caring. Words cannot express our appreciation and gratitude.
