Dr. Michael J. Kuhn, Jr. of Elm Grove died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 29, 2025 at the age of 92. Beloved husband of Doris J. Kuhn (nee Granrath) for 68 beautiful years. Devoted father of Mary Beth, Kitty (Jim Quinn), Michael John III M.D.(Amy), Maggie (Philip Schneider) and Paul. Adored grandfather of Lawrence, John (Laura Nettesheim) and Meg (Andrew Banman) Griffin; Emily (Charley) Sharman and Madeline Kuhn; Ryan, Michael and William Jacobus. Great grandfather of Charley and Annie Lou Sharman. Dearly loved brother of Suzanne (Jim, deceased) Woelfel, Judy (Bob, deceased) Schmank, Margaret (John, deceased) Christman, John (Carol), Jim (Karen, deceased), Aggie (Jack) Green, and brother-in-law to Connie (Roger, deceased) Robbins and Kate (Don) Wilson. Beloved uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Dr. Michael J. Kuhn, Sr. M.D. and Agatha (nee Ryan) Kuhn; in-laws Lawrence and Madeline (nee Giganti) Granrath; daughter Mary Beth (1971); grandson Michael John Jacobus (2020).
Michael was a graduate of Marquette University High School, completed his pre-med studies at and graduated cum laude from the College of the Holy Cross (Worcester, Mass.) in 1954 and received his medical degree from Marquette University School of Medicine in 1958. During his more than 50-year practice in obstetrics and gynecology, he was beloved by his many patients for his gentle manner and sense of humor. He delivered over 10,000 babies, each time rejoicing in the miracle of new life.
Mike was a runner, completing the Boston Marathon several times, and running his last marathon at age 70. An avid reader, prolific gardener, classical music enthusiast and extensive traveler, other hobbies ranged from baking bread to flying a glider plane. But what he loved most was being with his cherished Doris and their family, whether that was sailing the Flying Scot in Door County, marveling at a beautiful sunset or celebrating a family event. To Mike, the present moment was always the best moment, especially if it was with his loved ones.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 9 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Becker Ritter Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Michael's life will take place Monday, February 10 at noon at St. Mary's Visitation, 1260 Church Street, Elm Grove, WI 53122, immediately followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Michael's name to the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, College of the Holy Cross, Boerner Botanical Gardens or to the .
