The funeral service for Michael D. Nelson, 41, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 11:00am, Saturday, December 14, 2024, at New Life Fellowship Church, with Pastor Chuck Hogle officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Aberdeen. Michael passed away with peace surrounded by many who loved him dearly on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
Visitation will be 3:00-7:00pm, Friday, with family present from 5:00-7:00pm, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.
Michael was born September 19, 1983 to David and Janet Nelson. As a child he grew up on his beloved family farm just off Richmond Lake, where farming and cattle became something he cherished dearly. In his youth Michael enjoyed being outdoors, wrestling in school, and spending South Dakota summers with his favorite cousins.
Michael graduated from Aberdeen Central in 2002. After graduation he went on to study Architectural Drafting at NDSCS in Wahpeton ND. After school he went on to a career in Sales as the Assistant Manager of Rex TV Audio & Appliance. He later moved on to build houses with his dear friends James and Kevin Husby, and even spent some time plumbing with his friend Kyle Price. Michael's true passion was always in Agriculture and farming, and he found his home for the last 11 years with Titan Machinery, where he wore many hats in their parts department.
On September 19, 2020 Michael married his teenage crush and love of his life, Angela Rugg, in Aberdeen where they made their home and raised their family. Michael's favorite time of year was always the 4th of July, where the entire family would gather from near and far to celebrate the holiday together on the family farm.
Michael was not just a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin. He was also a deeply loved husband and stepfather. A cherished and wonderful friend. He was also an absolutely adored "Uncle Monkey" to his dear nieces Alexis, Paisley, and Dakota. Who held his heart in their tiny little hands.
Forever grateful to have known him and loved him with their whole hearts: parents David and Janet, brother and sister (in law) Matt & Ashlee, Grandmother Barbara. His stepdaughters Sarren and Wynter, his wife Angela. His loving Aunts and uncles, and many cousins. And his friends who were truly family.
Preceding Michael in death are his paternal grandparents: Calvin & Oriole Nelson; maternal grandfather: Donald Knudson; one cousin: Randal Nelson; second cousins: CJ Dow, Carson Nelson, and Zach Rathert; and his great-aunt and uncle: Roger and Darlys Marko.
