Michael Ruane, 90, of Lexington, Michigan passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Michael was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary.
Born in Detroit, Michigan on February 27, 1935, Mike was the second of five children of Nellie and Mike Ruane, Irish immigrants who instilled in him values of family, faith, and hard work. Mike married the love of his life, Mary O'Keefe on June 18, 1960. They were married for over 63 wonderful years.
Mike honorably served in the Army in Germany for two years before completing his bachelor's degree at the University of Detroit. He then began his career at Ford Motor Company, where he worked as a financial analyst for over 30 years.
Mike and Mary settled in Redford, MI where they raised their five children. They were active members of St. Hilary Parish and made many life-long friends in the parish community. In 1968, they built a cottage in Lexington, MI and retired there in 1995. They had countless good times with their extended family during summers and vacations in Lexington. In 2002, they bought a house at Tanglewood in Sebring, Florida where they spent winters over the past 20 years. They were active members of the community and made many great friends there as well.
Mike is survived by his five children: John (Angela) Ruane, Marie (Bob) Strum, Karen (Bob) Perl, Kevin Ruane, and Bill Ruane as well as his seven grandchildren Ryan, Kari, Billy, Danny, Nina, Trevor, and Jessie Lee and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dear sister Babs (Jim) Rockel and brother John Ruane. He was preceded in death by his brother Bill and sister Maureen as well as his parents Nellie and Mike Ruane.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Monday, June 23, at St. Denis Catholic Church, in Lexington. Fr. Bala Mandanu will officiate.
Visitation will be from 10-11 AM Monday prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blue Water Hospice in Marysville, who took such wonderful care of Mike in his final days. Donate - https://vnabwh.org/donate/
