Michael F. Sermersheim, Sr., 94, passed away peacefully at home on February 6th, 2024
Mike was born in Jasper, IN to Frank Heamer and Freda Mueller Sermersheim on July 7th, 1929.
"Mickey" graduated from Jasper High School in 1947, where he excelled in basketball and was named to the Indiana All-Star Team. His talent on the court earned him a scholarship to Georgia Tech where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He was inducted into the Georgia Tech Athletic Hall of Fame in 1972. Mike continued to support Georgia Tech in later years, attending football and basketball games with family and friends.
Mike served in the Marines for two years before beginning his lifelong career with Southern Bell. While working in Paducah, KY, he met and married the beautiful Pat Hannan. They moved to Louisville where they raised their four children and formed friendships that lasted their entire lives.
Members of the Louisville Boat Club for over 50 years, they loved playing tennis and sharing good times with all their friends. Mike played in and then helped run the Bobby Piatt Seniors Tennis Tournament held there annually.
Mike was President of the Louisville Kiwanis Club, Vice Chairman of the Farmers Bank in Hardinsburg, KY, and he and Pat were on the Board of Trustees of her alma mater Saint Mary of the Woods.
Mike was generous and loyal and loved by family, friends, co-workers and acquaintances. He genuinely enjoyed people and his warmth and optimism were unmatched.
He was predeceased by Pat, his loving wife of 60 years, his son Michael Sermersheim Jr (Trish), and siblings Denny Sermersheim, Virginia Reese and Gloria Buecher.
Mike is survived by his daughters Patsy (Bud) and Emily (Danny), and son David (Minda); his grandchildren Taylor, Meagan, Ian, Patrick, Davey, and Hannah and great granddaughter
Kennedy. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Mike's devoted caregivers Sharon and John; and the team at Hosparus of Louisville
Visitation will be Monday February 12th at Ratterman's Lexington Road from 4pm to 7pm and funeral at the Cathedral of the Assumption at Noon on Tuesday February 13th.

During one of my first meetings with Mr. Sermersheim, he introduced me to one of his guiding concepts of "Good, Better , Best, never let it rest until your good is better and your better BEST!
