My fondest condolences to Mike´s family.
He was a GIANT in the field of medical physics - it´s all true! - and a proponent of individualized treatment regimens using radioactivity (so called "radiotheranostics"). But more than that, he was generous with his scientific time to all levels of academics/clinicians. When he visited our MedPhys Graduate Program at Duke upon my invitation, he spent lots of time with our students (more than with faculty!)...though we did squeeze in an early morning racquetball game before his lectures later that day (let´s just say I had no chance, as he was an amazing racquetball player).
May you have the best memories of him, and know that when you think of him, he will be with you. Peace.

Mike was a brilliant mind in internal dosimetry, a dedicated teacher, and a great support to those who inquire of his help. His deep scientific insight and unwavering support were a beacon during some of my challenging dose assessments. Mike's legacy lives on in the many lives he touched with his knowledge, patience, and kindness. Rest in Peace. Shalom.

My condolences to the family. I became very familiar with Stabin's work during my Masters which was a dosimetry project. While I never knew him personally, I highly respect him, I probably read everything he wrote on dosimetry! This is a sad day for his family, and a sad day for science.

I'm shocked and saddened by this news. Mike was a tremendous scientist, teacher and colleague. He was incredibly generous with his time and expertise in radiation dosimetry - especially with students who will help to carry on his legacy.

Kind, funny, incredibly smart. Recognized around the world for his contributions to dosimetry, most specifically in the field of nuclear medicine. Despite his brilliance he never showed the slightest trace of self-importance. His hope wasn't recognition but that his work would optimize the benefits to the millions of patients who were administered radiopharmaceuticals each year.
When we hung out, often at a Mexican or Chinese restaurant, common topics would be music and movies, but without fail he would always bring up his children and how proud he was of them.
I cried when I heard that he had passed.
Mike, we will not forget you.
