Mildred F. Hibbits, born April 27, 1942, died February 29, 2024
Mildred Francis Hibbits (nee Mielewski), aka Millie, aka Mom, aka Cookie, aka Mom Mom, was born in Jersey City on April 27, 1942, to Joe and Jennie Mielewski and grew up in Kearny. She was the eldest of 3 siblings. After graduating from Kearny High school she went on to work at RCA in Harrison.
In 1961 she married her husband, William, and moved to North Arlington. In 1973 Millie and Bill moved to Lyndhurst to raise their family. Millie raised her 2 children while also finding time to be a youth soccer coach, Pre-K teacher, and Sunday school teacher. She did all of this before it was the cool thing to do. She never missed a special moment for her kids or any of her nieces and nephews. She always put family first and it is evident in the absolute heartbreak we now feel. So many Christmas breakfasts, Easter brunches with egg hunts, and 4th of July BBQs have left memories in our hearts and some scars on our bodies.
In 2004, Millie retired and moved to the shore. Some of the best times she had at the shore were spent with her family, especially her grandkids, whether it be baking brownies, making slime, feeding the swans, sitting on the deck while they learned how to handle a drop line, or watching countless hours of dance moms. There was nothing she wouldn't do for her grandkids. The love she had for them will live on in them wherever they go.
Millie was an absolute bad ass who was stronger than most knew. She beat lung cancer twice and fought through it's lingering effects for almost 4 decades. To say she was fierce would be an understatement. She was simply amazing.
She is predeceased by her father and mother, Joseph and Jennie Mielewski, brother Joseph Mielewski, and brother-in-law, Robert Wilks. She is survived by her husband William, son Scott and his fiance Angela, daughter Beth Ann Garrett and her husband Timothy, sister Debra Wilks and sister(in-law) Gail Mielewski and by the loves of her life, her grandkids, Jarrett, Delaney, Hayden, Emerson, Colton, and her bonus granddaughter Bella. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews Tara, Joseph, Brian, Keith, Sean, Kelly and their spouses and children. Aunt Cookie loved each and every one of you as if you were her own.
There will be a private family visitation on Tuesday, March 5.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation in her name to the American Cancer Society so that others have the chance to kick cancer's ass just like Millie.
