Mildred Frances Rust

Mildred Frances Rust, née Stieler, aged 80, of Comfort, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 29, 1944, in Comfort, to Arthur and Edna Stieler. Mildred was the second born of three siblings, all girls.
Mildred was born and raised in Comfort and enjoyed the simple life of living in a small community. Her family is rich in heritage and part of the original founders to this area. These family ties shaped her strong work ethic and appreciation for family. In her youth, Mildred worked tirelessly to support her family while excelling in school. A talented athlete, she was honored with the Babe Ruth Award as the most athletic girl in her senior year of high school.
It was during this time that Mildred met the love of her life, Milton "Buddy" Rust. The connection was instant. After not much time they realized they were soul mates and decided to spend the rest of their lives together. On June 8, 1963, Mildred and Buddy were united in marriage. They began their new life together in Comfort. After a few years, they decided to move to Cuero, TX to raise turkeys. Living without family nearby, they learned to appreciate the simple things such as growing the family bond, God's miracles, music (From a Jack to a King, among others) and becoming self-sufficient. About 10 years later, they soon realized raising thousands of turkeys was not the dream job they thought and decided to return to Comfort.
Numerous years later, her beloved husband passed away suddenly, which became a challenge for her to walk through life without him. Over the next 25 years, after Buddy's passing, she was able to witness her family grow, celebrating the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride.
Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Milton "Buddy" Rust; her parents, Arthur and Edna Stieler; and her sister, Erna Hamilton.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Cindy Durham; Clayton Rust (Mark Wolfschlag); Melissa Rust; and Carl Rust (Amanda); her stepchildren, Doug Rust (Jerrilee) and Darrel Rust (Theresa); her sister, Alice Robinson (Robbie); 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Schaetter Funeral Home, Comfort TX on Wednesday January 22, 2025 from 1:00 - 2:00pm. Services will be held starting at 2:00 followed by interment at Comfort Cemetery.
