Milton Lehman Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 25, 2025.
"Glad you got to see me."
These were the words Milton loved to say whenever he left a family gathering. It was his signature farewell, always delivered with a smile, and it perfectly captured his humor and his larger-than-life presence. While we will no longer hear him say it, those words will forever echo in our hearts and memories.
Milton Lehman, 84 of Houston, Texas, affectionately known by friends and family as "Uncle Milton", "Slim" and "Stovepipe" passed away in Houston, Texas on August 23, 2025. Milton was born on December 19, 1940, in Leon County, Texas. At the age of 7 his family moved to Huntsville, Texas where his mother insisted that all her children get a good education. After graduating from Huntsville High School, he accepted a basketball scholarship to Trinity Valley Junior College achieving an associate's degree then transferred to Sam Houston State University on another basketball scholarship and earned a degree in Physical Education. After attending Sam Houston State, he accepted a coaching position in Odessa, Texas as the 7th and 9th grade football coach during the 1963-64 season where his 9th grade team achieved a record of 8-0-1.
Sports always played a major role in Milton's life. His passion for golf was well known to his family and large circle of friends where he fostered another family as a member of the Lochinvar Country Club for 38+ years. He never lost his love of sports and even made a career out of it, well known among friends for always having the latest line on a game.
Milton is survived by his brother RL Lehman, Jr. and wife Verna along with RL's children Harold Lehman and wife Diane, Donna Lehman-Davis, and daughter Christina Greenville all of Pollok,Texas, Brother -in-Law Don Gaylor of Wichita, Kansas, Hank Gaylor and wife Bari of Fort Worth, Texas, Paul Caskey and partner Becky Shilling of Clear Lake, Texas, Michael Gaylor and wife Elif of Wichita, Kansas, Justin Lehman and wife Lori of Conroe, Texas, Jared Lehman and wife Jennifer of Conroe, Texas, along with numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews who were all considered his own.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents Reuben (Granky) and Ester (Nannie) Lehman, sister Elouise and husband Clyde Caskey, Wilma Gaylor, and sister-in-law Mae Lehman along with brothers Travis Lehman and Joe Lehman and wife Jackie, along with nieces Brenda and Patsy Lehman, and nephews Steve and John Caskey.
Most important to Milton was always his family and friends. We recently learned another of his passions was homelessness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Habitat for Humanity https://secure.habitat.org or a homeless charity of your choice.
True to Milton's style, he requested that no formal service be held. Instead, he wanted "a big old party" in his honor, a time to laugh, share stories, and remember the joy he brought to every gathering. Details will be shared with family and friends at a later date.
