Monty Edward Johnston, 71, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024 in Weatherford, with his beloved wife, Becky, by his side. He was born on February 16, 1953 in Weatherford, Texas.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 14, 2024 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Weatherford, 222 W. Church St., Weatherford, TX 76086, with a reception immediately following in the FBC Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Weatherford Ministry Scholarship Fund at https://bit.ly/WTXMSFund.
Monty and Becky were married almost 45 years (August 4, 1979) and shared two daughters, Heather and Haley. Monty met each day, bright and early, with a positive attitude and a smile. He was a dependable pillar of strength and safety for his family and many others. While he was known for being a constant source of stability, he was equally known and loved for his warmth and sense of humor.
An avid dove hunter, Monty never missed an opening day. He enjoyed cooking and found joy in passing that passion on to his kids. Monty was a lifelong fan of the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys, but in recent years, his favorite teams to watch were the soccer and t-ball teams that his grandkids played on. He embraced his role as “Pops” to his four grandchildren and they loved him deeply in return. Monty was fiercely loyal and he valued family above all else. His girls (Becky, Heather, and Haley) were his life.
Monty was predeceased by his parents, Milton and Audine Johnston; sisters, Pauline Paschal, and Mary Nell Taylor; and brother, Kenneth Johnston.
Monty leaves behind a legacy of love and integrity. His memory will be forever cherished by his wife, Becky Murphey Johnston; daughters, Heather (Jeremy) Chambers, and Haley (Trevor) Dippon; grandchildren, Bryson Chambers, Madison Chambers, James Dippon, and Johnny Dippon; brother, Bobby (Melba) Johnston; sisters, Nona Poynor, Marcie (JB) Lowrance, and Evelyn (Tim) Parker; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Beyond Faith Hospice, Jenny Kuettel, and Dr. Lyndale Holloway for helping make Monty’s last days as peaceful and comfortable as possible.
