Muriel A. Hill, age 102 ½, a lifelong resident of Mahopac Falls, NY passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025. She was born on February 11, 1923, the daughter of Coleman Agor Jr. and Helen Tilford Agor.
She was born in the building located on the corner of Myrtle Avenue and Brook Road in Mahopac Falls. This building was built by her great grandfather, Coleman Agor Sr. around 1918. It was the first general store in the area, known as Agor Brothers, operated by Muriel's father and his brother, Kelsie. This building replaced one that was built earlier which was destroyed by fire. The general store remained in the family as an integral part of the community until 1966 when it closed.
Muriel was a graduate of Mahopac High School, Class of 1940. Following high school, she attended college and through the years, worked in Medical Records at Roosevelt Hospital in NY City and worked with her husband, Donald, when his business, Donald Hill Construction was established in 1947. Muriel also worked for Brewster Transit Mix for 23 years from 1961-1984. She truly loved her church, Red Mills Baptist Church in Mahopac Falls which she joined in 1949, and is a member still today.
On August 28, 1943 she married Donald R. Hill who passed away on May 20, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Lampe and her husband, John of Mahopac; her grandsons, Rod Lampe and his wife, Lisa of Putney, VT and Craig Lampe of Rhinebeck, NY; her great grandson, Max Lampe of Putney and her niece, Nancy Barfield of Texas. In addition to her husband, Donald, she was predeceased by her sister, Virginia Baracca.
Visiting will be held on Sunday, July 20 from 2-6 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 21 at 10:30 am at Red Mills Baptist Church with interment to follow at Ballard-Barrett Cemetery, on grounds located behind the church.
