Myrle Miller McCormack O'Steen died peacefully on July 26, 2025, at the age of 95. She was devoted to God, her husband, Harry E. O'Steen, her four daughters, Amy, Elizabeth, Susan, and Mary, her fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and her many friends. She was excited about life, every day! She was born in Groveton, NH, on December 22, 1929, the daughter of James and Irene McCormack. Her early career in Boston as a certified lab technician led her to Mississippi, where she met Harry on a blind date. He proposed four times before she finally said yes, and they were a loving team for 61 years. They made many moves around the country for Harry's work with IBM and made lifelong friends everywhere they lived. Myrle (known as Mickey) was an avid skier as a child and thought everyone else should be a skier too, so she taught Harry, and together they hit the slopes well into their 70s.
Mickey was deeply devoted to God and her Catholic faith. Every day began with the Lord's prayer and the Hail Mary. Holding her hands and saying these prayers with her will be a tender memory for all who loved her. She was a creative entrepreneur who found a new career with every move. She was a small business owner, Patty Cakes in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Susan's Ice Cream Shop in Omaha, Nebraska; excelled in real estate in Austin, Texas; and found success with Nikken International in
Rockwall, Texas. She was planning new endeavors for herself and others right up until her death. She ADORED her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made them laugh, and they did the same for her. She was silly with them and full of joy. They will miss her. Mickey loved her friends, and they loved her. Bridge was a lifelong passion. She was especially grateful for the friends she met and played with through the Newcomer's Club and Welcome Wagon. No matter how diminished her sight, with the help of her friends, she still loved to play bridge.
Her life never became small despite the limits of age. She enjoyed a little Bourbon during Friday happy hour with her son-in-law, Les, and she and Susan share a meaningful tattoo, a small heart on their wrists, that they got just a few months ago. Every year, people looked forward to Mom's Christmas card, which would not have been possible without Amy. She was Mom's connector. Mary made Mom feel young, and Elizabeth made her homes feel like home. She was always so proud of her girls. In her last few years, she could usually be found on the front porch of Brookdale Assisted Living, greeting those coming and going while enjoying the fresh air she craved. She leaves a legacy of love and faith and an unmatched zest for life.
We would like to give special thanks to Savannah Bridges and Judy McKinney, who did so much more than just care for our mom and the care staff at Brookdale Assisted Living. Also, the eucharistic ministers at Our Lady of the Lake Parish who visited weekly.
She is survived by her daughters Amy (Steve) Osteen of Round Rock, TX., Elizabeth Murphy of Brookfield, WI., Susan (Les) Kerr of
Rockwall, TX., and Mary (Brian) Decker of Thousand Oaks, CA.; her grandchildren Allison (Sterlin) Hale, Harrison (Katie) Osteen, Grayson Osteen, Patrick Murphy, Andrew Murphy, Peter Murphy, John (Lulu) Murphy, Nathan (Keeli) Allen, Daniel (Morgan) Allen, Timothy (Taylor) Allen, Micah Allen, Will Decker, Anna Decker, and Charlie Decker; and fourteen great grandchildren, Madeline and William Osteen, Eli and Caleb Hale, Arthur, River and Bodie Allen, Evelyn Allen, Freddy and Sonny Allen, and Lumen, Alba, Havylah and Salome Murphy.
Mickey was preceded in death by her parents, James and Irene McCormack; her brother, John McCormack; her sister, Maxine Byrne; her son-in-law, Michael Murphy; and her husband, Harry.
She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
