Nancy Jean Thomas (Van De Velde), age 78, passed away Monday, October 28, 2024 at Sparrow-Lansing Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born May 31, 1946 in Lansing, the daughter of Robert and Joyce (Riley) Van De Velde.
Nancy attended and graduated Grand Ledge High School. She met Vernon Dale Thomas through mutual friends, while spending time on the CB radio, and they were married in Grand Ledge at City Hall in 1977.
She eventually retired from General Motors, and enjoyed raising her horses, traveling with her family to Mackinaw City, gardening, canning tomatoes, and making strawberry jam. Most importantly she loved being a grandma, and had a special bond with her great-granddaughter Miley.
Nancy is preceded in death by her husband Vernon in 2018, her father, and brothers Ron & Wayne Van De Velde. She is survived by her daughter, Heidi (Don) Slack; son, Lance Thomas; grandchildren, Ashley Temsey, Lindsay (Richard) Wood, and Kenzie (Haydn Floyd) Baley.
