Nathaniel C. Eberly, 30, of Ephrata, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, in his sleep at home.
He was born in Ephrata to Randy and Deana (Rankin) Eberly and was the beloved husband of Kendall J. (Scott) Eberly. Nate was also the proud dad of their dogs, Lincoln and Monroe (aka Maryland).
A 2013 graduate of Ephrata High School, where he played varsity soccer and basketball, Nate went on to get his bachelor's degree from the California University of Pennsylvania in 2016. He was currently working as a produce manager at Giant while obtaining his Ecological Gardening certification from Mount Cuba Center in Delaware. Nate loved the outdoors and cared deeply about the environment. His passion for health and his love of animals led him to become vegan in 2018. An Eagle Scout, Nate enjoyed going to the gym, was a native gardener, and an avid sports fan. He loved spending time in his yard, playing with his dogs, and being with family.
In addition to his wife and parents, Nate is survived by maternal grandparents, Gerald and Shirley Rankin; paternal grandmother, Joyce Eberly; a brother, Alex, husband of Jamie Eberly; a nephew, Leo Eberly; parents-in-law, John and Tricia Scott; two sisters-in-law, Chandler, wife of Dylan Jaffe, Delaney Scott and a brother-in-law, Blake Scott.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, J. Harold Eberly.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. A celebration of life service will be planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, kindly donate to one of Nate's favorites causes, PA Native Plant Society, P.O. Box 807, Boalsburg, PA 16827 or online at panativeplantsociety.org.

I met Nate at Mt Cuba Center, where we took several classes together in 2024 towards an Ecological Gardening Degree. Yesterday, while attending the first class of a Garden Design course I was looking forward to seeing his familiar face amongst other colleagues and was very very sad to find out the tragic news. Nate was a fellow native plant nerd and we had a healthy on going competition/joke regarding our score on the infamous 3 tests. These 3 tests involved identifying 75 native plant latin names, for which you had to memorize a total of 180 latin and common names! We both aced the tests, had a kick comparing grades and talking about the spelling of names & which new plants we had acquired to plant. I will miss these exchanges and hope his garden will flourish in his honor. Sending my love to the family.
