Nickolas David Christy was born on November 11, 1983. After graduating from Perrysburg High School, Nick embraced an unconventional and adventurous lifestyle that took him across America, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Always a champion of the downtrodden, Nick saw the good in people others could not. He was a pillar of support to anyone going through a tough time and was known to give large sums of money to the homeless people he would meet on his travels, despite the objections of his friends and family. Nick possessed a capacity for selflessness that would have made Mother Teresa jealous at times.
Listen- he did what he wanted to do, full stop. He wasn't beholden to societal norms. He wasn't concerned about a career, or saving for retirement, or how he looked to others, and I think other people saw things about him and couldn't quite figure out if he was right or if they were. Nick immediately called into question what we should be afraid of, you know, what really mattered in life, and people had strong reactions to that.
Nick always had a passion for the arts. He was a guitar player and a song writer for many years. He wrote many songs.
He also drew and painted. Nick created many admirable pieces of art, often featuring cats. He liked cats.
Over the years, Nick's professional life spanned a wide variety of occupations as well. He worked at a music studio for a time, he also worked at a farm to table style restaurant in North Carolina, a place that really took on his personality after a while. He even briefly worked at one of those weird sweepstakes joints you used to see everywhere before the regulations were passed that closed most of them down. I remember he was given a handgun for protection and was told to keep giving the patrons free beer.
The trick to winning he said was to vary your bet every time. So, if you didn't learn anything else from reading this, there you go.
But he will be remembered most as a handy man. Nick's last job was maintaining apartment buildings in North Carolina. He showed real ability in overcoming the myriad difficulties inherent in that line of work. It satisfied him, so he did it for a while.
He developed a deep passion for the hills and mountains while in North Carolina. He will be returning to them soon.
So, having said all that, I offer this obituary:
Nick died suddenly while visiting a friend in Cleveland, he was planning on relocating to Ohio to be near his family. Nick graduated Perrysburg High School class of 2001. While at Perrysburg he was a part of the Jazz Singers and went to leadership camps. His main interests were always Music and Art. He lived in various parts of the U.S. While in California he lived in a Yurt, In North Carolina he worked at a small restaurant for several years. He spent some time in New Jersey, then Atlanta Georgia for several years, then back to the Carolinas for most of the last 10 years where he loved to hike the mountains and hills. Nick was always a happy guy and would help anyone, anytime. He is greatly missed by his mother Cheryl Christy, father Jeff Christy, his brother Nathan Christy, and his spouse Tracie Martin. The family will be having a memorial for Nick Friday August 9, 2024, at The Lamb Center, at Side Cut Park Maumee, Ohio 3pm to 8 pm. All are invited.

Nick, you were always such a sweet, loving soul. You were a free spirit. One that I will always remember. I am drawn to wild spirits like you and I will always remember the laughs we shared in the kitchen at Chris's Pizza in Atlanta. We had many deep conversations and shared many stories with each other. We never judged each other and we always had one another's backs. You will be sorely missed friend. Love you always
