Nondis Jane Shumate, daughter of the late Archie Rogers and Mary E. Eilenstein Rogers, was born March 6, 1948 in Lebanon, Missouri. She passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024 in Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-six years, six months and eight days.
She grew up in Lebanon, Missouri and graduated from Lebanon High School. On August 6, 1965, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, John Henry Shumate. Together they shared fifty-nine years of wonderful memories while raising their son, John.
In addition to her parents, Nondis was preceded in death by her brothers, Teddy, Jack, David and John Rogers; and her sister, Clara Ernst.
She is survived by her loving husband, John Henry Shumate; her son, John Paul Shumate of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Wyatt, Charlotte and Cooper Shumate; two sisters, Patty Robertson of Scappoose, Oregon and Sue Purcell of Lebanon, Missouri; two special nieces, Cindy Anthony of Phillipsburg, Missouri and Randi O'Quinn of Niangua, Missouri; and her sister-in-laws, Katherine Wimberly, Pat Shumate and Freda Rogers; and a brother-in-law, Ernie Stewart.
Nondis began her career at Wallace Hospital in Lebanon. She then went on to H.D. Lee and Tracker Marine, making many lifelong friends along the way at each place of employment.
She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed her church family. She loved God with all her heart and looked forward to spending eternity with Him.
In her spare time, Nondis enjoyed reading, sewing and traveling.
She was a person that took care of people. She was loving, caring and a good friend to many. Her life revolved around her family and she loved spending time with her three grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Nondis was known for her unwavering dedication to her family, embodying the roles of a loving wife, devoted mother, and cherished grandmother. Her home was a haven of warmth, love, and laughter, where countless memories were created and treasured.
A graveside service for Nondis Jane Shumate will be Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Dotson Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 18 from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home.
