Olga Bonilla Gonzalez, 96, passed away peacefully at home on October 26, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Ruben Gonzalez, with whom she shared 63 remarkable years of marriage.
Born in Rincón, Puerto Rico, on July 29, 1929, Olga was the daughter of Inez Candelaria Bonilla and Francisco Colonbani. At the age of 25, she left her home in Puerto Rico for New York, where she later met her husband, Ruben. Together they eventually settled in Meriden, Connecticut, where they raised their four children. Olga was a devoted parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church.
A talented seamstress by trade, Olga found joy in creating clothing for her young children and, later, beautiful blankets for her grandchildren. She was known for her quick wit, love of learning, and deep devotion to her family. To Olga, family was everything.
Olga is survived by her children: Olga Jimenez and her husband Alex, Evelyn Mercado and her husband David, Ruben Gonzalez and his wife Sandy, and George Gonzalez and his wife Kim; seven grandchildren: James Lugo, Scott, Mark, Jake, and Max Gonzalez, Daniel and Alexa Gonzalez; and two great-grandchildren: Jayden and Killian Lugo. She is also survived by her sisters Dolores Bonilla, Celia Noriega, Antonia Gonzalez, and Milagros Bonilla; her brothers Andres Bonilla and Jorge Bonilla; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, November 2nd from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
Should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to the Franciscan Home, 267 Finch Ave, Meriden, CT 06451 or online at franciscanhc.org/home-2/support-us/. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Olga Gonzalez, please visit our floral store.
