Patrick "Pat" Donald McCarthy of Mesa, Arizona, passed away peacefully on February 21st, 2024 at the age of 75. Pat was born to Donald and Joan McCarthy in Chicago, Illinois on November 11th, 1948. He is preceded in death by his father Donald and is survived by his loving wife Judy, son Kevin, daughter in-law Beth, son Andy (AJ) and wife Jenny, son Brendan and wife Emily, and grandchildren Kileigh, Riley, and Beau. He is also survived by his 95 year-old mother Joan and 9 siblings Bill (Peg), Jerry, Marty, Joe (Renee), Mary, Tom (Kandi), Jean (Greg), Anne, and Colleen (Burt). Along with being a son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and brother-in-law, he was also a loving uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Pat was raised in Chicago where he met and married his high school sweetheart Judy on December 19th, 1971. He was a dedicated electronics specialist in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972 and served his country in the Vietnam War. Following his service with the Air Force, Pat enjoyed a successful career in sales within the manufacturing and forging industry. Along with Judy, he raised three sons, Kevin, Andy, and Brendan and became a grandfather in 2008 with the birth of Kileigh. Pat and Judy moved from Chicago to Mesa, Arizona in 2014 and subsequently retired in 2016. Following retirement, Pat continued his love of serving people via the Navigator program at Sky Harbor Airport and enjoyed being a marshal at the annual Phoenix Open golf tournament.
Throughout Pat's life, he had many interests and hobbies including spending time with a vast network of friends and family, striking up conversations with anyone willing to have a chat, working on house projects, enjoying a well-earned beer on the patio, and cheering on the White Sox, Bears, Blackhawks, and Bulls. He was deeply loved and respected by all who met him and was a constant leader a trait developed from being the oldest of his 9 siblings. The loves of his life were his wife Judy, his kids, and grandchildren, but he also loved golfing, fishing, music, and trying to learn new skills such as learning to play the guitar.
He is missed by many and will never be forgotten. Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 22nd, 2024, from 10:30am to 1:00pm at Bunker Family Funeral Home, 33 N Centennial Way in Mesa, AZ 85201. Services will be followed by a lunch reception from 1:30 to 4:00pm at Mesa Country Club, 660 Fairway Drive in Mesa, AZ 85201.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to Emerald Groves North Assisted Living Facility, who took loving care of Pat during his last two months of life. Donations can be made here: https://gofund.me/5bb10828

With heartfelt sympathy on the loss of Patrick. Although I hadn't met Pat personally, it was serendipity that allowed me to run across Pat in an online FB family history forum! After messaging back and forth, he so generously shared what he knew of our common family genealogy. Keeping his mom, family, and especially Pat, in thoughts and prayers. Helen M.

Very sorry for your loss McCarthy family. I have many great memories of Pat and my Uncle Tom taking us to the driving range to hit balls and to the speedway to watch the races in Blue Island. Glad I was able to see you guys at Honor Flight at Midway several years ago.
