It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Francis Avery, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, co-worker, and friend. Paul, age 70, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 27, 2025, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and selflessness to all those who knew him.
Paul was born to Edwin and Mary Avery in 1954, the youngest of 7 children. He attended St. Jude Catholic Grade School, St. Anthony/East Catholic High School, and Wayne State University.
Paul sang for 60 years with the St. Jude Men and Boys Choir and later with the Men's Schola Choir. Paul always said "music was a form of prayer" and the brotherhood they shared was one of his greatest joys. His legacy is one of love, humility, and dedication to his church.
Professionally, Paul enjoyed his career in transportation, working for W.R. Filbin Co., F.X. Coughlin Co., and for the last 35+ years, Trans Overseas Corporation as V.P. of Export Operations. His career was "his hobby" and he loved every minute of it.
He was also on the Board of Directors at Christian Financial Credit Union. It was one of his greatest pleasures to serve on the board.
Paul's greatest love was his family. He shared a beautiful life with his wife Colleen and his two daughters, Lisa and Megan. The family enjoyed many adventures in Downtown Detroit, musicals at the Fox Theatre, classic car shows, dinners at the Villa, Detroit sports games, and 7-11 slurpee trips. Many family trips to Disney World, Sea World, Charlevoix and Central Lake were taken throughout the years, creating special memories that will live forever in our hearts.
Paul is survived by his wife Colleen of 45 years; his daughters Lisa (Colin) and Megan (Jason); and his grandchildren, Adeline, Jacob, Alan, Joey, and Jack. He is also survived by his siblings, Carolyn (Jim), Sr. Kathy Avery, OSM, MaryLou (the late Dave), Janet (the late Gary), John (Gaye Ann), and Larry (Theresa). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, beloved friends, and co-workers.
