Paul Raymond Cline, 94, passed away peacefully in his sleep, on January 14th 2023, in West Jordan Utah. Paul was born on January 11th 1929, in Draper Utah, to Remo Sterling Cline and Bessie Pearson Cline. He is the third of their seven children. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first and second wives, Colleen Didericksen and Wanda Jensen Smith, and his three brothers Oliver, Remo Sterling, and Ernie.
Paul is survived by his three sisters: Jean Shaw, Joan McIntire, and Janis Ware;
his children: Michael (Laurie) Cline, Mark (Jayna) Cline, Paula (Bob) Nohavec, David (Carol) Cline, and Steven (Lynn) Cline; his stepchildren: Sterling (RoChelle) Smith, Terry (Jen) Smith, Kevin (Pam) Smith, and Darlene (Bruce) Mair. Between his two families, he leaves 36 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Paul graduated from Washington High School, in Richland Washington. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the Central States Mission. After his mission, he served his country for two years as an MP, during the Korean War. When he returned from Korea, he enrolled at Brigham Young University, where he met Colleen and they married in the Logan Temple. They were blessed with five children. He left BYU to support his new family. In the 1970s he returned to BYU, to finish his studies graduating with a BFA.
After a divorce, he met his second wife, Wanda, at a church singles dance. They married and he became a step father to her four children.
For most of his life, he earned his living as a plasterer. He had his own business, Paul Cline Plastering, which he continued to work at until age 72. He was a happy and tireless worker, often whistling and singing as he worked. Many of his sons and grandsons have been blessed to work with him and learn from him. His son Mark went on to build his own plastering business in Dallas Texas.
He is an artist. He loved sculpting and painting. His favorite scripture is Matt 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." This scripture inspired many of his sculptures and paintings. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Paul loved serving others. He was inspired by the example of his grandfather, Ulysses S Cline, to spend as much time as possible in the temple serving as a patron. He would often spend entire days serving in the temple.
He is a beloved grandfather and great grandfather. Many of his great grandchildren call him "The Sucker Grandpa", because he always had suckers for them. The children in his condo complex knew that too, and would often stop by for a treat.
Memorial Service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, January 28th, 2023, at The Harvest Hills 12th Ward Chapel, 270 W Harvest Hills Blvd, Saratoga Springs, Utah 84045
