Peggy Jean Romesberg Ogle Nelson, age 92, 10-year resident of Parkside North East, formerly of Harborcreek, passed away peacefully at UPMC Hamot early Wednesday, October 15, 2025. She was born in Rockwood, Pennsylvania on January 23, 1933, daughter of the late E. Luella and Woodrow Romesberg.
Peggy moved to the Erie area with her mother, stepfather, and younger sister, JoAnn, in her early teens. A few years later, her family moved to Harborcreek, where she attended high school. She met and later married her high school sweetheart, James Nelson. After graduation, Peggy continued her education by attending Hamot Nursing School and was pinned and capped as a registered nurse in 1952.
She served as an assistant to the school nurse for several years at Harbor Creek High School. Peggy was an avid bowler, card club member, and a den mother while raising her three children. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Harborcreek for 69 years and a lifetime member of the Shiloh Chapter of the Eastern Star.
In 1974, Peggy left nursing to co-own and operate Nelson Outfitters camping equipment store with her husband and son, Rich. Her love of camping and travel lead her to visit Zimbabwe, Nova Scotia, Florida, Newfoundland, Maine, Las Vegas, and New Orleans. Her greatest adventure was her cross-continental trip on the Al-Can highway to Fairbanks, Alaska and back.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James H. Nelson; and son Richard Alan Nelson.
Peggy is survived by her daughters, SueAnn Mills (Arthur) and Bonnie Duckett (Don) of North East; grandchildren, Bethe Viscuso (Joe) of North East, Holly Strauss (Todd) of Framingham, MA, Mollie Mann (Jesse) of Nashville, TN, Kate Mills (Chris Simpson) of Wheat Ridge, CO, Andrew Mills of North East and Edd Mills of Toledo, OH; her great-grandchildren, Zachary Strauss and Eliza and Jacob Mann; her sister JoAnn Caruso; brother, John Ogle; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Friday, October 24th, from 3 to 7 pm with a service to be held at 6:30 by the Nurse Honor Guard. Further visitation will be held on Saturday, October 25th, at the First Presbyterian Church of Harborcreek, 6724 Buffalo Road, from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Service there at 11 am, conducted by Rev. Mike Wilson. Interment will follow at North East Cemetery following the luncheon.
