Peggy Utterback Obituary
Wilmington - Peggy Jane Archibald Utterback, born on August 11, 1931, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, at the age of 93. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew her.
Peggy was a dedicated homemaker, creating a loving and nurturing environment for her family; her home was always filled with love and laughter. She had a passion for reading, which transported her to different worlds and enriched her life with knowledge and imagination. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel the world, where she embraced diverse cultures and experiences. Peggy also enjoyed walking and exercising, tending to her beautiful garden, and watching the birds that visited her backyard. A sports enthusiast, she never missed an opportunity to cheer on her favorite teams.
Peggy's educational journey began at Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, VA. She continued her studies at James Madison College in Virginia and later attended Bridgewater College. Her commitment to learning was evident throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James E. Utterback "Jimmie," her brother, Jack Archibald, and her parents, Raymond and Gertrude Archibald. Peggy is survived by her devoted children: Vicki Hart and her husband, Mike; Ken Utterback and his wife, Sue; and Lori Brown and her husband, Skip. She also leaves behind her cherished brother, Ken Archibald. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Jason, Corey, Randy, Brian, Steven, Krysta, Jessica, and Tyler, as well as her great-grandchildren: Brady, Anna, Billy, Gwen, Mary Claire, Lyla, Levin, Luke, Wyatt, Liam, Quinn, Kylie, Mikey, and Augusta.
In addition to her family, Peggy was known for her compassionate heart and volunteered her time at the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women, providing hospice care and comfort to those in need. She also organized the chapel service at Brightmore Indepedent Living every week, and volunteered for Good Shepherd in North Carolina.
A private inurnment will be held at Monticello Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville, VA, on June 14, 2025.
