Services for Pete Junior Stapp will be held Friday, August 1, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Middle Creek #1 Indian Baptist Church of Lamar with Rev. Mark Smith officiating.
Pete Stapp passed away unexpectedly in Dustin, Oklahoma on June 5, 2025. He was born September 6, 1958 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Gene and Nancy (Fish) Stapp.
A talented artist from a young age, Pete graduated from Wetumka High School in 1976 before attending East Central University for one year. Soon after he hitchhiked out west, chasing adventure and following his dreams. He landed in Arizona, where he worked and attended college for a year to study art. After spending some time in California, he eventually returned to his home state of Oklahoma. Pete worked in the oil and gas industry during the 1980s and 1990s, most notably with Okemah Construction. He had a free-spirited, hippie-like soul and lived life entirely on his own terms. He led a life of simplicity, never placing much importance on material things, and often went where his feet and the wind took him. Though he never sought out permanence, Pete left a lasting mark on those who crossed his path. He was known for his kindness, his jokes, his sharp wit, and a way of seeing the world that was uniquely his own. Although Pete had no children of his own, he was a beloved uncle to more than 40 nieces and nephews, all of whom adored their free-spirited, hippy uncle. His stories, laughter and presence will live on through the memories they carry.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gene (Goose) Stapp, Danny Jo Stapp and Ronnie Stapp; and five sisters, Brenda Howell, Carol Stapp, Lavern Counts, Louise Buck and Nita Stapp.
Survivors include one brother, Bobby Stapp and wife Fran of Maud, Oklahoma: two sisters, Rita Smith and husband Brent of Henryetta and Sharon Stapp of Tulsa.
Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Wetumka, Oklahoma.
