Peter Salamon Jr., 90, of Taunton, passed away in his home on Thursday, March 28th, 2024 surrounded by his family. The husband of the late Mary (Green) Salamon, he is survived by the pair's three children - Peter, Philip, and Kris, - their spouses, Karen, Julie, and Kimberly - and six grandchildren - Amy, Eric, Hannah, Abby, Mollie, and Madeline. The youngest son of the late Peter Sr. and Antonia (Sosenko) Salamon, he was preceded in death by his brothers: William Salamon, Nicholas (Micky) Salamon, John Salamon, and Paul Salamon and his sisters: Anna Ladebauche, Mary Marney, Esther Costa, Julia Salamon, Eva Salamon, and Helen Booth.
A lifelong Tauntonian, Peter graduated from Taunton High School and received some schooling from Northeastern University before joining the United States Air Force. While stationed in England during the Korean War, Peter met Mary. The two would reunite in the U.S. after Peter's service ended, settling in Peter's hometown where they lived and loved for the remainder of their lives. Peter was loving, tolerant, gentle, and generous, never hesitating to lend a helping hand or snag the bill from a dinner out with an almost superhuman speed - affectionately earning him the moniker "fastest wallet in the East" among those closest to him. He worked for many years at Reed & Barton as a die-cutter and supervisor before his eventual retirement, an occupation that left him with a discerning eye for sterling silver that would have him examining the cutlery at endless dinners and outings. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, tending to the native birds, visiting Grove Street Tavern for fish and chips, watching the Red Soxs, and spending time with family. He loved cold beer, cheese and crackers, beef stew, and anything chocolate. Much to Mary's dismay, and the endless amusement of his sons and grandchildren, Peter also had an unusual love for any and all SPAM products. He was the favorite of every one of his grand-dogs, who always knew right where to go to get the best table scraps. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose quiet, sweet demeanor will be dearly missed and remembered fondly by all who knew him for many years to come.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 13th, 2024, at Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay St., Taunton, from 9:00-11:00 A.M., the Funeral Service will proceed at 11:00 A.M in the Funeral Home, followed by an Interment at Mayflower Hill Cemetery, 235 Broadway, Taunton. All relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Peter's family asks that those wishing to offer condolences consider making a donation in his honor to a local Veterans Association.
